Just Be Grateful

By Lily Shawhan

Choosing to have a heart of gratitude honors God and blesses you.  When you are living with a grateful heart you will experience more joy in your life, and you are more of a joy to be around with those who are a part of your life.  God blesses us with good things so that we can enjoy them.  Yet, he also places challenges in our lives that help us grow as Christians, so we never take God for granted.

I want to share this beautiful example of gratitude from the New International Version – Luke 7:44-50

“Then he turned toward the woman and said to Simon, ‘Do you see this woman?  I came into your house.  You did not give me any water for my feet, but she wet my feet with her tears and wiped them with her hair.  You did not give me a kiss, but this woman, from the time I entered, has not stopped kissing my feet.  You did not put oil on my head, but she has poured perfume on my feet.  Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven – as her great love has shown.  But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.’  Then Jesus said to her, ‘Your sins are forgiven.’  The other guests began to say among themselves, ‘Who is this who even forgives sins?’  Jesus said to the woman, ‘Your faith has saved you; go in peace.”

Take the time to reflect on the decisions you make around others and how you are living each day.  Are you trying to follow God’s word and living with grace?  Are you grateful for those who are a part of your life?  I ask you to be mindful of showing grace to those you encounter every day.  I will also continue working on this every day with you.

  1. Thank you for this reminder that when we give willingly and from the heart without any intent of being recognized by anyone, the results can be greatly rewarding. It is this way we understand “It is better to give than to receive”.
